The Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally was recently held in Scotland. McRae Stages is named in honour of Colin McRae, the much-loved Scottish rally driver and former WRC Champion. Colin was the first British driver to win WRC and the youngest World Champion ever.
Tuthill Porsche ran a bunch of Porsche 911s on the event, including one for Colin’s father, multiple British Rally champion and great friend Jimmy McRae. It’s the third time that Jim has competed in a Tuthill Porsche this year. Tuthill also ran Andrew Barnes, Edmund Peel and former UK Historic Champion Dessie Nutt in 911s on the rally.
The McRae/Tuthill family association goes back decades. When the first McRae Stages Rally was held in 2008, the year after Colin’s premature demise in a helicopter crash, Tuthills sent a slew of Porsches to run the rally, in honour of Britain’s greatest modern rally figurehead.
Race4Change driver Björn Waldegård did the event in a Tuthill 911. Further down the field was Travis Pastrana in a Ford: the first time Björn and Travis ran together in competition. Also in the field was Colin’s hero, Ari Vatanen, along with former World Champions Hannu Mikkola and Stig Blomqvist. Here’s a great video showing Bjorn and Travis, along with some other big names:
The McRae Stages Rally closed the UK Historic Rallying season, and sets the stage for the winter marathon events that many of the top drivers will compete on. Top of our list is of course the Safari Rally. Stig and Björn will again go head-to-head on an historic event that retains the outright speed and technical challenge of the original.

Travis, it must be nice to get to drive the nice car. I’m sure everyone will have a great time but instead of driving the great cars sell them and donate the money. I think that would do more. Don’t think I dont understand what you all are doing and I am a big fan of yours. But with the global money problems it would be nice to see some of the 1% give to the 99%. Thanks.
