Race4Change star driver, Travis Pastrana, recently spoke of his place in our team on his website. ESPN have now picked up on the story and run it as a news piece. Here’s their text:
As if eleven-time X Games gold medalist Travis Pastrana weren’t busy enough healing from his injury sustained during X Games 17 Best Trick, preparing for the 2012 NASCAR season, and wrapping up filming on his latest film “Nitro Circus 3D,” he’s decided to take on a new challenge — to help end poverty.
Pastrana, who is already a rally champion in America, has entered the Race4Change East African Safari Classic Rally, which is dubbed as one of the toughest rallies in the world. “I could not be more excited to come over and participate in such an awesome charity event,” said Pastrana.
Taking place on Africa’s wildest terrain, the East African Safari Classic spans over 5000 kilometers through Kenya, Uganda and Tarzana, and lasts a grueling ten days. But as Pastrana knows, the “world’s toughest rally race” is nothing compared to what the world’s most impoverished people have to deal with daily.
“Having been fortunate enough to travel to far off places, I’ve seen poverty firsthand and am glad to be able to lend a hand in the crusade to end it. What I do is sometimes considered dangerous, but let me tell you that there is nothing more dangerous to an individual, a country, or our world than poverty.”
The 2011 East African Safari Classic runs from November 19-28.
Travis will drive for Race4Change to raise awareness of the power of microfinance as a tool to empower women. You can support Travis’ efforts by donating to our team here. Send us whatever you can: $20 would be appreciated, but $10 is fine if that is what you have to give. Whatever you can send is appreciated: no names, no pack drill.
Everything you give goes to those who need it: nothing goes to rallying. Our race is paid for by the Funk Family Trust. Donating is easy – takes just a few seconds. It is all tax deductible in the USA!
