The very accomplished co-driver:Jean-Louis Juchault, a Dakar finisher

Jean-Louis Juchault is a racecar driver, co-founder and former CEO, of a billion-dollar hedge fund Systeia Capital Management, a hedge fund that specializes in alternative investments.  He co-founded the successful venture eight years ago.  A lawyer by training, Juchault sold his share of the Paris-based firm in 2008 to the Credit Agricole Group.

Juchault describes his passion for a good race and a good cause, “I started raising money for Médecins sans Frontière in the Dakar race in 2007. I decided to raise money for charities because car racing for me is a pure pleasure. I wanted to use my car to raise awareness and money for charities and decided not to ask sponsors for money for myself, but instead wanted to give them a chance to do good and get some exposure by giving money.”

Without the day-to-day responsibilities at the hedge fund, Juchault could devote more time to his passion for road racing.

His next race will be in Kenya in November 2009.  He will be co-driving and co-navigating with his old friend, Canadian financier, Dr. Steven Funk.

“When Steven and I decided to do the East African Safari Rally we met with Ingrid Munro and asked her if we could raise some money for Jamii Bora by drawing attention to the race and the cause through publicity, sponsorship and a viral marketing campaign because we both thought she was doing amazing work to end poverty in Kenya.”

He is also raising money for the Microcredit Summit Campaign, whose next meeting is being co-organized by Ingrid Munro and Sam Daley-Harris and will take place in Nairobi, Kenya in April 2010.

In earlier days, Juchault completed a brief service in the French military as a civil servant in Ivory Coast in the late-1980s, which sparked his deep interest in Africa. His love of racing and Africa was the inspiration behind his desire to raise money for charities.

Juchault races cars as a nonprofessional throughout Africa. He participated in international FIA auto races including Dakar rally 2006, 2007 and 2009; Tunisia rally 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2007; and Morocco rally 2001 and 2003. He has also raced in the Saint Petersburg-Moscow-Bejing Rally in 2008.
